Nghi Son, Thanh Hoa: “The Festival Day of Gratitude to Those with Meritorious Service’
“Showing gratitude and living responsibly are universal human values found everywhere. However, elevating this value into a national celebration called ‘The Festival Day of Gratitude to Those with Meritorious Service’ is something I’ve only witnessed in Vietnam,” said Mr. Michael W. Savidge, Excutive Vice President of NS2PC and General Manager of the Nghi Son 2 Thermal Power Plant, at a commemorative seminar held on the morning of July 24, 2025, in celebration of the 78th War Invalids and Martyrs Day organized by Nghi Son Ward.
Mr. Michael shared that every year, NS2PC’s leadership makes time to visit and offer best wishes to families who have contributed to the country.
“Today, I am truly delighted to see the happiness on your faces. This shows that you are, to some extent, satisfied with the transformation of your homeland—once the heroic homeland, now the dynamic Nghi Son ward. It also reflects your appreciation for the attention shown by local authorities, organizations, and businesses that continue to honor and recognize your immense contributions.”
“At today’s celebration, I noticed the absence of many Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and other honored individuals. When I inquired, I learned that many have peacefully passed away to be with their ancestors. Let us observe a moment of silence in remembrance and deep gratitude.”

Mr. Michael W. Savidge shares
He continued:
“Congratulations to all of you. Your sacrifices and those of your families have significantly contributed to the development of your hometown, which has now become a vibrant Nghi Son Economic Zone—a bright spot attracting investors and talanted individuals from across the country and abroad to live and work here.”
“Remembering the Source of the Water We Drink” – A Sacred Responsibility
At the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoan, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Nghi Son Ward, reflected on the ward’s history and tradition, and paid tribute to the fallen heroes, wounded and sick veterans, and families with meritorious services to the nation.
“Remembering those who came before us is a long-standing moral tradition of the Vietnamese people. Over the years, the Party and State have always paid great attention to both the material and spiritual well-being of families of martyrs, wounded and sick soldiers, and those who have made contributions to the revolution. This is not only a duty but also a sacred obligation of every Vietnamese citizen,” Mr. Hoan emphasized.
On this occasion, Mr. Hoan called upon all departments, mass organizations, and local units to continue improving the implementation of preferential policies for those with meritorious service, and to provide practical and effective support—especially for families still facing difficult living conditions.
“Our goal is to ensure that families who have served the country enjoy a standard of living equal to or higher than the average living standards of the community.” He emphasized.
