NS2PC Executive Vice President: Planting Trees with the Elders is a Great Blessing, and being given the Vietnamese name is truly an immense honor

HÀ ĐÔNG, Nghi Sơn, Thanh Hóa, Sept. 25, 2025. “Whenever I come to Hà Đông, I always receive smiles from the people, and I feel as if I am returning home. Today, having the honor of planting a commemorative tree with the elders is a great blessing, and being given the Vietnamese name Mai Hưng Cồ is truly an immense honor.

I have just learned that, according to Vietnamese tradition, the elders are considered symbols of longevity bestowed by heaven; planting a tree together with them is regarded as a blessing granted by the elders,” said Mr. Mai Hưng Cồ (Michael W. Savidge), Executive Vice President of Nghi Sơn 2 Power Limited Liability Company (NS2PC) and Plant General Manager of  Nghi Sơn 2 Thermal Power Plant. He shared these words during the handover ceremony of a playground and outdoor fitness equipment to the Hà Đông neighborhood community, Nghi Sơn Ward, on the afternoon of September 25, 2025.

According to Mr. Mai Hưng Cồ, this activity is part of NS2PC’s corporate social responsibility program, aimed at contributing to the spiritual well-being of the local community. The ceremony took place in a warm and simple atmosphere, with the participation of elders, children, local residents, and representatives from the leadership of Nghi Sơn Ward, Hà Đông neighborhood, and NS2PC.

“Having the elders, local officials, and Mr. Mai Hưng Cồ plant a commemorative tree in the new playground is a symbolic act, representing a commitment to long-lasting neighborly and friendly ties between the community and NS2PC,” remarked elderly, Mr. Vũ Cao Nguyên during the ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyễn Văn Hoàn, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Nghi Sơn Ward, on behalf of the local authority and residents, expressed gratitude to NS2PC for its support in socio-economic development and environmental protection in recent years. With a total contribution of nearly 30 billion VND, today the residents once again receive a meaningful project. “I hope this playground will become a safe and healthy space for children and residents of the neighborhood, enriching cultural and spiritual life, strengthening community bonds, and contributing to building a civilized lifestyle in the residential area,” he emphasized.

Mr. Hồ Văn Miên, Head of the Hà Đông village, shared his joy at the attention and support from the ward leadership and NS2PC in bringing a new playground to the residents. “We see this as a precious gift from our neighbor, NS2PC. Therefore, the local officials and residents will manage and use it properly so that this meaningful gift can serve the community for a long time.”
