NS2PC: A BOAT CAPTAIN'S PROFESSIONAL TRAINING

On the morning of July 4, 2024, NS2PC, Hai Ha Commune People's Committee, Thanh Hoa College of Agriculture, Nghi Son Port Border Guard Command held the opening ceremony of the Boat Captain Professional Training for 70 fishermen in Hai Ha commune, sponsored by NS2PC.

“This is a meaningful program, joining hands to realize the goal of the Government of Vietnam in its efforts to remove the “yellow card” on IUU fishing (Illegal, unreported, unregulated) that the European Commission has warned Vietnam“ said by Mr. Michael W. Mr. Nguyen Trong Hau, General Secretary of Hai Ha Commune Party’s Committee, on behalf of the officials and people of Hai Ha commune, thanked NS2PC for support in recent times through the practical and effective Corporate Social Responsibility Program, especially the Captain Professional Training for 413 fishermen to obtain Captain License in 2019 and 70 fishermen in this year. This class not only contributes to keeping fishermen safe when fishing on sea, but also helping fishermen to register their fishing boats, which coordinates with the Vietnamese Government to soon remove the “yellow card”, which the European Commission warns. He advised trainees to study hard and comply with class regulations well to have enough knowledge for passing the examination to obtain a captain's certificate.

Mr. Doan Van Luu, Vice Principal of Thanh Hoa Agricultural College, said: The European Commission (EC) working group will go to our country to check the implementation of IUU fishing this year (expected September), Thanh Hoa province is focusing on many solutions to remove the IUU’s yellow card. Thanh Hoa Agricultural College has been coordinating with localities to train boat captain and machine chief engineer licenses, contributing to helping fishermen for fishing according to regulations.

He asked the trainees to strictly comply with the regulations of the class. If they do not qualify for the exam, they must take the examination again (pay the fees by themselves) to qualify for the exam and get a certificate.

The training course will be held from July 4 - 10, 2024 at 2 locations:

• Ha Dong Village Cultural House for fishermen in villages: Ha Dong, Ha Nam and Ha Thanh.
• Ha Trung Village Cultural House for fishermen in villages: Ha Trung, Ha Phu, Ha Tay 1, Ha Bac and Ha Tan.
