Nghi Sơn – Thanh Hóa: “Every Household and Business Is a Firefighting Soldier”

On October 4, 2025, the People’s Committee of Nghi Sơn Ward held a ceremony to announce and inaugurate the Community Learning Center (CLC) on Fire Prevention, Fighting, and Rescue (FPFR), while also presenting 420 fire extinguishers to local households, sponsored by Nghi Sơn 2 Power Company (NS2PC). This “community engagement” model concretizes the directive of the Thanh Hóa Provincial People’s Committee to integrate FPFR into community learning activities, helping to raise public awareness and skills in fire prevention and response.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Nghi Sơn Ward People’s Committee, the Fire and Rescue Police Division (PC07), the Party Committee – People’s Council – Fatherland Front, the ward police, leaders of residential groups, the health station, preschools, primary and secondary schools, as well as leaders of NS2PC. Notably, 50 students from Nghi Sơn Secondary and High School were also present.

At the event, the People’s Committee announced the establishment of the CLC, introduced its Board of Directors and Executive Committee, and approved the center’s operating regulations. A highlight of the ceremony was the signing of a Coordination Plan between Nghi Sơn Ward People’s Committee and the Fire and Rescue Police Division – Thanh Hóa Provincial Police on FPFR activities.

Mr. Mai Hưng Cồ (Michael W. Savidge) – Executive Vice President of NS2PC and Plant General Manager – remarked:

The launch of the Nghi Sơn Ward Community Learning Center not only marks an important milestone in grassroots FPFR efforts, but also creates a practical learning environment that spreads the spirit of ‘Every household and business is a firefighting soldier.’ This model fosters collaboration among local authorities, functional forces, businesses, and the community, contributing to building a safe and civilized Nghi Sơn Ward.”

He further emphasized:

Fire knows no borders, but our courage, solidarity, and determination also know no limits. Today, we stand here as partners and neighbors – united in the strength of cooperation to protect our community and ensure a brighter, safer future for us all.”

Mr. Mai Hưng Cồ (Michael W. Savidge) – Executive Vice President of NS2PC and Plant General Manager – remarked:

Expressing his appreciation, Mr. Mai Hung Co added:

I was deeply moved to learn that some of the fire extinguishers donated earlier by NS2PC had already been used by residents to promptly control small fires. This is clear evidence of the effectiveness of Community Firefighting Points and Safe Neighborhood Teams. Today, we take another step forward: NS2PC is honored to donate 420 fire extinguishers to 420 local fishing households. We hope these extinguishers will never need to be used – but if the day comes, they will be ready to safeguard lives and livelihoods.”

Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyễn Văn Hoàn, Vice Chairman of Nghi Sơn Ward People’s Committee, acknowledged and thanked NS2PC for its practical support in building community firefighting points and safe neighborhood teams:

These contributions not only help raise public awareness of fire prevention but also reflect the company’s strong sense of social responsibility and humanitarian spirit toward the community.”

He also praised the proactive response of households in Bắc Hải Ward and Nghi Sơn Ward Police for effectively applying the “four on-the-spot” principle, skillfully and promptly using equipment at the community firefighting point to extinguish a fire on October 3, 2025.
