NS2PC EVP Participates in CCS Workshop Promoting Vietnam’s Net-Zero Goals

Thanh Hoa, Vietnam – May 29–30, 2025

Mr. Yasuaki Watanabe, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Nghi Son 2 Power Limited Liability Company (NS2PC) participated in a high-level workshop on Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and its potential application in Vietnam’s energy and industrial sectors. The event was jointly hosted by PetroVietnam, the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC), and NS2PC, and took place in the Nghi Son Economic Zone, Thanh Hoa Province.

The workshop gathered senior representatives from PetroVietnam, JOGMEC, and the Embassy of Japan, alongside officials from key Vietnamese ministries including the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the Ministry of Finance. Local authorities from the Thanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee and the Nghi Son Economic Zone Management Board also attended, along with executives from leading Japanese enterprises operating in Vietnam.

During the event, NS2PC delivered a presentation outlining its decarbonization roadmap toward net-zero emissions by 2050.

NS2PC highlighted its greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets and introduced carbon capture and storage (CCS) as a key technology under evaluation to support our long-term sustainability goals,” said Mr. Yasuaki Watanabe.

On May 30, delegates toured several Japanese-invested industrial sites in the Nghi Son Economic Zone, including the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex,  and 2 Thermal Power Plants, and the Nghi Son Cement Plant…. The site visits offered valuable insights into the operational scale of these facilities and emphasized the urgent need for practical carbon reduction strategies across industries.

The workshop served as a significant platform for technical exchange and cross-border collaboration, further supporting Vietnam’s green transition and its pledge to reach carbon neutrality by 2050.
