Deputy Director of the Electricity Authority: “Nghi Son 2 Thermal Power Plant is one of Vietnam’s leading coal-fired thermal power plants.”

On the morning of June 2, 2026, Mr. Michael W. Savidge, Executive Vice President of NS2PC and Plant General Manager of Nghi Son 2 Thermal Power Plant, welcomed a working delegation from the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The delegation was led by Mr. Bui Quoc Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Electricity under the Ministry of Industry and Trade; Mr. Pham Le Phu, Deputy General Director of EVN, served as Standing Deputy Head of the Delegation; and Mr. Nguyen Kim Thang, Deputy Head of the Power Transmission Division of NSMO, served as Deputy Head of the Delegation.

The delegation also included representatives from the Thermal Power and Nuclear Power Division, the Electricity Market and Power System Division under the Department of Electricity, Ministry of Industry and Trade; the Industrial Environment Division under the Industrial Safety Techniques and Environment Agency, Ministry of Industry and Trade; the Energy Management Division; EVN’s Safety Engineering Department and Environment and Sustainable Development Department; NSMO’s Electricity Market Division and Dispatching Division; and the Thanh Hoa Department of Industry and Trade. The delegation visited NS2PC to inspect its power supply situation during the peak electricity consumption season.

On behalf of NS2PC’s leadership, Mr. Michael W. Savidge expressed his appreciation to the leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and its affiliated units for their responsible support and assistance, which have made an important contribution to NS2PC’s successful construction and stable operation of the Nghi Son 2 BOT Thermal Power Plant.

After hearing NS2PC’s representative report on the Plant’s operational situation, Mr. Bui Quoc Hung, Head of the working delegation, acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of NS2PC’s leadership, engineers, and employees in ensuring the Plant’s stable operation and maximum-capacity generation.

Mr. Hung stated that all indicators related to safety, environment, emissions, and wastewater had fully met Vietnam’s QCVN 19:2009/BTNMT and QCVN 22:2009/BTNMT. In particular, he noted that Nghi Son 2 is likely the only coal-fired thermal power plant to date that still meets the QCVN 22:2024/BTNMT standards.

“The working delegation has visited 15 coal-fired thermal power plants during this inspection. If there were a ranking of the best coal-fired thermal power plants in Vietnam, I would recommend Nghi Son 2 Thermal Power Plant as  one of Vietnam’s No. 1 coal-fired thermal power plants,” Mr. Hung emphasized.

Mr. Hung requested that NS2PC continue to build on its achievements, ensure maximum-capacity operation, and contribute to meeting the electricity supply demand of the entire power system during the hot season, when electricity consumption is surging unusually high.

Currently, the Plant is operating at full capacity, reaching 1,200 MW. As of the end of May 2026, the total electricity output delivered to the grid by the two units reached 3.436 billion kWh, equivalent to 100.8% of the five-month plan and 43.77% of the full-year 2026 plan. By the end of 2026, the Plant is expected to deliver approximately 7.788 billion kWh to the grid, according to Document No. 486/EPTC-GDTT+KDMĐ dated January 19, 2026.
